Chapter One:

“Watch out, I'm going to get you!"

"Only if you can catch me, Joykit!"

"Run, Patchkit!"

"I'm going as fast as I can, Tigerkit."

"She just wants you to win."

"Yes, what Dreamkit said."

Greenkit smiled as she watched Joykit and her brother play. That's right, come a little closer...

"Hi, Greenkit! Are you doing your sneak attack again?"

"Oh, Tootsiepaw, you scared me! And yes, I am."

"I thought so, Greenkit."

"Yep, I mean, Patchkit is just such an easy target."

"Yeah, my sister Fluffpaw was the same, Greenkit."

"Were you an easy target, Tootsiepaw?"

"No, but I was a good sneak attacker."

"Tootsiepaw!"

"That's Echoshimmer. I'm coming!"

Greenkit watched her go and sighed. One day, that will be me, running over to my mentor. But right now, I have a Patchkit to catch.

"Patchkit, I'm catching up!"

"No, you’re not, because nothing is going to stop me, Joykit!"

That's what's you think, Patchkit. Suddenly, Greenkit heard a scream, coming from Joykit.

"Patchkit, watch out!"

How can they see me? I'm well hidden. Suddenly a thought came to her, and it scared her. Maybe it's not m- Before she could finish, she heard a loud yowl.

"Fox!"

Graystar heard the yowl and ran to the cat who said it. "What's going on, Lionblaze?"

"I just heard Peanutdazzle yowl fox, and ran toward the kitting place."

Spottail poked her head out and asked, "What's going on?"

"Fox in the camp!"

"What!? Where are my kits? Lionblaze, where are Joykit and Patchkit?"

"They ran that away."

Hopeshade woke up with a jump and asked, "Did someone say fox?"

Spottail nodded. "I'm on my way to save Joykit and Patchkit- they’re out in camp with a fox on the loose."

"And Greenkit is with them! She wanted to do her sneak attack on Patchkit," Dreamkit mewed.

"What!? She's out there too?"

Tigerkit nodded and looked at her sister, and then looked right back at her mom. "What's gonna happen to us?"

"Nothing. Lionblaze, take Tigerkit and Dreamkit out of camp; I'm going with Spottail to save their sister."

"Okay, come on, kits."

Dreamkit nodded and followed Lionblaze and Tigerkit out of camp. Hopeshade watched them go and then followed Spottail to save their missing kits. "Joykit, Patchkit, and Greenkit!"

"Help! We’re over here- help!"

"Hold on, we’re coming!"

They were running so fast that they didn't see where they were going and bumped into Fidgetshadow.

"Oh, I'm sorry."

"That's okay- I know where you’re headed, and I just saw the kits. I was coming to get guys and more cats to fight besides Fantastream, Tulipwhiskers, Hollylight, Fireblaze and me."

"Five cats should be enough to fight a fox."

"That's the thing, Spottail- it's not a fox, it's a wolf."

"A wolf?"

"Yes, Hopeshade, a wolf."

"We haven't seen wolves in like, forever!"

"I know, Spottail, I couldn't believe it either."

"Which cats are you going to grab, Fidgetshadow?"

"Well, I don't know, Hopeshade. I was just going to go through the camp and see who I could find."

"Well, Lionblaze is a good one. He was one of the three and can't get hurt in battle."

"Thank you, he will be one of the ones that I grab!" Fidgetshadow yowled over her shoulder.

The two she-cats watched her go and went back to their rescue. A loud howl made them run faster. When they got to the wolves, Spottail gasped when she saw the wolves hovering over the kits. Without thinking, Spottail jumped on top of one the wolves and yowled, "Run, kits!"
