Witherkit's longing (open)

Witherkit scratched circles in the dirt in the ground. Her usual gloomy self, she was trying to think of something to do. She felt she should talk to Featherkit, Hushkit, and Snowkit, but she wasn’t in the least tempted. All she wanted to do was learn to fight, and she often practiced by herself; when no cat was looking, of course.
She looked around; the camp was quiet. Well that was to be expected, it was nearly moonhigh. The usual heat of Greenleaf had died into a warm breeze. She could hear the more daring prey around the edges of camp, and her paws itched to get out of the confines of camp. But if she left, she would miss her clanmates. She never admitted it, but she enjoyed being in a clan. She liked that there was always something going on, and liked to examine the different personalities of the clan cats. They were so different from that of the loners she had met!
She got to her paws and padded to the spot she usually used for battle training. She pricked her ears, listening to the sounds of her sleeping clanmates. She crouched low to the ground and started practicing all the moves she had learned and taught herself, hoping she didn’t wake anyone up and get caught.

Shaggyfur

Sleep eluded her. Shaggyfur rolled over and thought of poking the tom that snored beside her. However the blue and cream cat resisted the temptation. Instead, after plucking the moss off her long fur, she got up and padded outside of the den. Giving herself a little shake she walked into the camp. It was quite, and it seemed there were no other cats awake. Then she turned and gave the slightest smile. There was another cat who seemed to have her problem. A kit, Witherkit if she wasn't much mistaken. Oh right, she was one of the new cats.

"Hello there." Mewed Shaggyfur as she padded up. "Practicing I see." She added. "You're doing a good job." The blue and cream cat smiled a bit. One day she'd likely have kits, though she was sure it was far to early for such things. A smile played on her muzzle and she walked up. "Can't sleep?" She asked, concern quite real in her soft voice. "I know how that feels. Was having trouble sleeping myself. But don't worry about waking your clan mates too much. I'm sure badgers could dance though this camp with fish on their heads and no-cat would wake up." she chuckled, showing her fangs. "I'm Shaggyfur." she added. "Don't think I got properly introduce myself to you."

Witherkit mewed in surprise at Shaggyfur's sudden introduction and flattened her ears in embarrassment at her praise. She let out a mew of laughter at her joking; It was funny because it was true!
'I'm sure badgers could dance though this camp with fish on their heads and no-cat would wake up.'
Witherkit wasn't well acquainted with Shaggyfur, they had barely shared more than a few words here or there. Nonetheless, Witherkit answered the warrior, trying to sound polite through her indignation.
"Yes, I'm training, and thank you. And yes, I was having trouble sleeping. I guess I'm not much used to sleeping with so many other cats around. May I ask why your not snuggled up in your nest like everyone else?"
Despite popular belief, Witherkit didn't TRY to seem like a hateful cat. She liked to be polite, and she enjoyed speaking with other cats; she simply didn't have much practice.

Shaggyfur blinked, then chuckled when the youngster questioned to her as to why she was up and about. "One of my denmates snores so as loudly as a roaring lion. I am sure you could hear him in StarClan and beyond StarClan." she mewed, chuckling a bit. "It's hard to sleep when his muzzle is next to my ear." she paused. "And he's cute, so I don't want to hit him." she added, grinning a bit. The she-cat yawned slightly and smiled more. Witherkit sure seemed blunt, but that didn't phase Shaggyfur.

"I can understand what you're feeling. I wasn't clanborn either." she said. "It found it hard to sleep in a den full of apprentices. Some of them would toss and turn, or meow in the sleep." She blinked a bit and then began to lick her paw. "Or end up rolling into me from some sort of dream they were reacting too. Or snore loudly. I was used to sleeping on my own. Then suddenly... I was thrust into all of this." She looked at the young cat. "Your name is Witherkit if I'm not much mistaken." She said. "So, how long until you're Witherpaw." she asked, trying not to seem too nosy.

Witherkit let out another mew of laughter. Her first impression of Shaggyfur was a pretty funny cat! And she related to Witherkit well, in the sense that they were both from outside the clans.
"Well, if that's what I'm looking forward to, maybe I don't want to be an apprentice at all! But, just one moon." She answered, all her gloomy emotions melting away.
She shuffled her paws in the dirt some more, barely resisting the urge to interrogate Shaggyfur with too many questions.
"Do you have an apprentice?" She asked curiously. After all, Shaggyfur seemed to be very good with young cats. And, Witherkit didn't know how mentors were chosen, but if given the choice, Shaggyfur would be her first choice.

Shaggyfur smiled, her eyes bright. Maybe this youngster wasn't such a grouchytail after all. "Well... Cinderpaw sleeps in the Medicine cat den with her mentor." She said. "And there are no other apprentices. And all the other kits are only four moons. That means that you'll get the Apprentice's den all to yourself for a whole moon, you lucky scamp." She said. "I never got that. No, I had to put up with snoring den-mates for... well ever." She chuckled. "But it's okay, because he's cute. I mean, really really cute." she pointed out. "So he's allowed to snore without me swatting him."

"Apprentice, nope. Only apprentice in the clan is training to be a medicine cat. I'm no medicine cat. I like toms far to much to live a life of celibacy. That would be torture." She chuckled a bit and wound her tail around her paws. "I'll have a chat with Silverstar and see what I can do. Maybe she'll see what a good fit you and I are and just hand you over to me for training up good and all that." She smiled again. "I'd like that, I know for sure. I'd give me something new to do." she purred happily and puffed out her chest quite a bit.

Witherkit purred along with Shaggypelt. How had she read her mind like that? And it was true, she was sure they would get along great as mentor and apprentices!
"Well, I guess I had better get back to the nursery. Wouldnt want to be caught out this late!" She said. She allowed herself a few more moments to enjoy the breeze on her back and the soothing sounds of prey rustling about outside of camp. She mewed her quick goodbyes to Shaggyfur and padded back to her den. Once there, she found it much easier to fall asleep, and soon fell into a deep and dreamless sleep.

The tab is available on the left with the other tabs on your dragonpage, but please read the newest additions to the Game Rules too. Also this tab is visible for any user that visits your dragonpage, so they can view your recolors and fanart dragons.
