Tawnypaw
A small tabby shaped stretched its way out of the apprentices den and looked around. The other apprentices had left for training ages ago, but Tawnypaw had yet to be assigned a mentor and besides he needed the sleep. Once again, the young apprentice had managed to sneak out at moon up and crawl along the borders at the blackberry bushes to spy out the SkyClan patrol. Unfortunately, last night had been unsuccessful and the only thing spotted had been various birds and mice. The cat padded his way over to the fresh-kill pile and picked out a small mouse that he himself had managed to catch, in a rather daring move, last night. Granted the poor thing had a broken leg and wasn't actually able to move, but he at least caught it right? Finishing his small meal he proceeded to groom himself, sitting in a spot of sunlight just in front of the nursery.

Witherkit stretched her legs and arched her back as she stood from her nest. She flicked her ear and lashed her tail, trying to wake herself up as she began licking her fur. After her fur was flat and she felt more awake, she was aware of her stomach growling for food. She gave her tail one last wave, before exiting the nursery. Of course, the first thing she did was almost run into someone. She mewed in surprise and she stopped, almost running into the cats flank. “Hey, what are you doing, squirrel-brain?” She asked, slightly irritated. Squirrel-brain was a name she usually reserved for Joyheart, but come on, who sits right in front of the nursery like that? All annoyance aside, she realized she didn’t know this cat. He must be new or something. And if he was new, (judging by his size) he had to be an apprentice. She made a mental note to play nice, as she would soon be sharing a den with this cat.

Tawnypaw
As the young apprentice swiped his tongue across the fur on his shoulder he felt a bump against his opposite side, the side facing the nursery. His head whipped around with a glare, as a voice spoke up. Squirrel-brain? Isn't she the one who walked into me? Tawnypaw slowly moved to stand in front of the she-cat and noticed that she wasn't actually much smaller than himself, She must be nearly an apprentice... Still glaring slightly, though his eyes shone with a soft playfulness he commented,
Actually, you must be the squirrel-brain little pet, as you are the one whom walked into me. Surely you know to look where your walking?
The young tabby attempted to draw himself off so that he could look down upon the blackish she-cat, although it barely worked and thus failed in his hope of looking intimidating.

“Actually, you must be the squirrel-brain little pet, as you are the one whom walked into me. Surely you know to look where your walking?” He said.
Witherkit flicked her ear as if there was a fly on it. Well, excuse her for walking out of her den. She resisted rolling her eyes, remembering that she was talking to a soon-to-be den-mate. A light breeze had sprung up around them, blowing to her the enticing scents of fresh-kill. “Well, whoever is at fault here,” She said, resisting a purr of laughter as he puffed out his chest, “why don’t we have a little chat? After all, we will be den-mates soon, right?” While she waited on him to answer, she smoothed out her ruffled fur and trotted toward the fresh kill pile. She flicked her tail for him to follow, testing her limits. After all, she had to learn to be in control of a situation if she wanted to move up in this clan, right? She dearly hoped she looked confident, mimicking what she had seen cats do around camp.

Tawnypaw
Tawnypaw smirked to himself, she'd stayed quiet at his comment and he thought for a second he'd won their mini-argument. However, the twinkle in her eyes gave away the barely held back laughter and he quickly deflated. Den mates? Then she must be nearly an apprentice then, I was right He hesitated for a moment as the she-cat began to move towards the fresh-kill pile and without really realizing it, he had begun to follow at the flick of her tail.
Sure, I don't see why not. How long have you get then?
He sat down slowly, and watched her as he waited for an answer. He was still figuring the cat out, she seemed like she wanted to be older than she was. Well, didn't they all? Tawnypaw himself couldn't wait to become a warrior, then he'd be free to wander as he wished instead of having to sneak out.

Witherkit felt relieved as she heard him follow her. ‘Alright, so far so good.’ She thought as she picked up a mouse from the pile.
“Sure, I don't see why not. How long have you got then?” He asked curiously. “Oh, less than a moon I believe. I’m relatively sure I’ll be six moons old soon.” She replied. True, she didn’t know exactly how old she was. She was, however, sure she was close enough so that it didn’t matter. “And, I don’t believe we have introduced ourselves.” She said as she started walking to her favorite, shaded part of camp to eat. “I’m Witherkit. And you are?” ‘Oh, yes, I almost forgot one more thing.’ “By the way, you’re pretty good at sneaking out. If I wasn’t awake, I would never have known you were gone at all.” She felt as if she should tell him. It was true, she wouldn’t have noticed his little night-time outings if she wasn’t awake. Witherkit still found it difficult to sleep around so many cats, so she was often awake very late at night.

Tawnypaw
Less than a moon? She's really not much younger than me then... Tawnypaw had only just become an apprentice a couple of suns ago. He'd always been a very shy kit and so it was unlikely that many of the cats in the clan had actually met him. The apprentice followed the she-cat towards a shaded spot and sat down beside her.
My name is Tawnypaw. He smiled at her and then returned to licking his shoulder where he was grooming before she disturbed him. His movements halted abruptly however when the blackish she-cat mentioned his sneaking out. He became defensive and his body stiffened. I...I don't know what you mean, an apprentice would have to be mouse-brained to sneak out of camp...or leave camp at all without permission... How on earth she could know about his nightly outings he had no idea, he was usually very careful about being seen.

Witherkit twitched her whiskers, dismissing Tawnypaws protests. He was an ok liar, she would give him that. She had seen him sneaking out a few times though. His protesting was futile. “Oh come on,” She said, lowering her voice, “I’m not going to tell or anything. In fact, if you wouldn’t happen to mind too terribly, maybe you could allow me to tag along next time?” She was tired of being trapped in camp all the time. She was used to going wherever she wanted, whenever she wanted. She liked clan life, but the rules got to be too much after a while. She licked her paw and drew it over her ear, waiting on Tawnypaw to respond. She hoped he didn’t try to deny it again, because if he didn’t accept that she knew, he wouldn’t be allowed to go with him. ‘Look out Marshclan,’ she thought, ‘I will be an apprentice to reckon with.’

The young apprentice narrowed his eyes as he looked at the sleek she-cat. He could tell that she didn't believe his protests and honestly he wasn't surprised, he'd never been a good liar, which is why he tried so hard not to be seen, so that he wouldn't have to lie. Fine, he sighed softly. Next time I go then I'll let you come. But you better keep your mouth shut little pet! The tabby tom sighed softly and lay himself down, stretching out in the shade, paws just touching the edge of the shadow and tapping the light softly. Why do you wanna sneak out anyway? What if you get caught? He knew his own reasons for sneaking out but he was curious as to what could make this she-cat wish to do the same.

Witherkit purred happily. Finally, she got to go out of camp! She hadn’t been farther than the entrance since she got here, and she was beginning to feel trapped. She wanted to go out and hunt, and smell that fresh-off-she-brook moister in the air. “Why do you wanna sneak out anyway? What if you get caught?” Tawnypaw asked. “Well, for one, I think I might actually be going crazy. I need to get out a bit!” She answered truthfully. “Plus, I don’t like eating prey that someone else caught. I should be catching my own! And come on, what’s the worst they can do to me if I get caught? Make me sit around camp and help out or something? No big deal.” She could feel the excitement in her paws; finally, maybe this was a cat she could get along with!

Tawnypaw
The tabby saw the young she-cats eyes light up slightly with the news that he would allow her to come with him and he gave an involuntary soft purr at the sight. He blinked when he realized and hoped that she hadn't heard the noise. He tilted his head slightly as he listened to Witherkit's answers to his questions. Tawnypaw's thoughts were a bit of a muddle as he contemplated his earlier purr. Maybe I could get along with this she-cat, after all, I've never really had a proper friend and she seems nice... He smirked and his tail flickered as he gave a soft laugh at the she-cats words.Aren't you a little young to be hunting and catching your own prey, little pet? It was true that if they were caught they would probably have to help the elders out, and that wouldn't be so bad really. Well, I haven't been caught yet, so you better not get me caught.
